Birchfield farm is nestled among the rolling hills of Nidderdale in an area of outstanding natural beauty that’s been unchanged for many hundreds of years. Our family has lived and farmed here for over four generations keeping alive our tradition of farming the land as well as producing award winning real jersey dairy ice cream and farmhouse butters made the way our ancestors did over a hundred years before.
Birchfield Family Dairies was established in the summer of 1999 and from this day on we have always taken pride in the products we produce, only making products that are free from artificial colours and flavourings but sourcing natural ingredients that are worthy of being included in our products.
Once upon a time only black and white cows grazed our pastures, a common sight in these parts of the world, but to make the best quality ice cream and butters we knew we had to replace these with a cow that had the characteristic that could create award winning products, so we bought our first herd of jerseys, these quite and gentle cows are now a common sight as you drive past our farm.
In 2003 we ceased selling milk to our local dairy and decreased the herd size so we could process all our own milk, it was also in this year that we launched Birchfield Farm Shop, this enabled us to grow, rear and produce products which we could then sell direct to the end consumer a move that was far from our comfort zones but today its our way of life and one we would never change.
What better than seeing our customers enjoying a product we have made with pride. Simple satisfaction!
From the cow to the cone we milk it, make it and make sure you’ll like it!
